The picture above was taken on April 16th, the day I celebrated hitting the 250 pound mark with a 5K benefiting Civitan Services in Benton, Arkansas. It was the first time I had run since my second year at Dallas Baptist University and the first time I had run in minimalist shoes. Needless to say, I felt that race for a week and a half…I could barely walk!
In less that two hours, I will embark on yet another [stupid] adventure. To celebrate losing over 100 pounds and to begin to close the chapter of our time in Arkansas (read the details), I’m going to run a 20K. Yes, a 20K. It might not be smart, considering my longest run to this point is only half of that distance…but it’s a challenge.
And that’s why I’m running it. It symbolizes our three years in Arkansas! From serving in a gospel-parched church, to battling infertitlity along with two miscarriages, to losing a job, to finding a job in an unknown field outside of my comfort zone, to getting out of debt, all the way to selling a house in a difficult market…these three years have been a challenge.
Each step beyond 6.2 miles will be uncharted territory. Each step beyond 6.2 miles will bring unknown and, to this point, un-felt challenges. I want to leave Arkansas the same way we spent our time in Arkansas…doing the impossible, relying on God alone.
